Ruby Cathedral Window

Like most people, I am addicted to pinterest.  After pinning numerous sewing projects, I finally have completed one.   It includes my moda “RUBY” fabric which I love so much.  I’ve been kidding with my husband that we should name a child after this fabric.  Afterall, Ruby is such a pretty name and color.
This project is supposed to be a baby play mat.  The ruby cathedral window play mat which can be found on moda bakeshop here: http://www.modabakeshop.com/search?updated-max=2011-11-26T00:00:00-06:00&max-results=12
After finishing this project I will either hang it on the yellow walls of my sewing room, or use it as a centerpiece for my table this spring.

Step 1: I had to buy a circular rotary cutter.  All of my tools are olfa.  Now I have a new tool that cuts various circles up to 8.5 inches.  Such a neat tool.  FYI: you have to take the cap off of compass part to hold it in place.  Video demo here:

Step 2: Broke out the credit card to buy a layer cake for the project. (well worth it!)

Step 3: Cut and set according to directions on moda bakeshop’s website.

These pictures show the mat right after all the circles are sewn in rows together, and one individual circle.

This is the back finished view.  If you are looking for a challenge, this is a neat project to tackle!
