Aprons

This past weekend I made a minnie mouse apron for a good friend's daughter.  She loves mini mouse.  I used a quick tutorial.  I also learned how to use a ruffler.  My mother-in-law purchased a ruffler for her janome sewing machine.  It is truly a time saver!

This apron was made for my daughter (when she gets older) with some scraps from my Dr. Seuss stash.  I love the ric rac.  It is reversible.

Check out how the ruffler works from this youtube video.

Pinwheel Baby

My cousin had a baby in April and I spent one marathon weekend making her a baby quilt for the baby shower.  I took the pattern from Moda bake shop, pinwheel baby quilt.  This is also her first baby and they didn't find out the sex until baby arrived.  It was a fun challenge to choose some gender neutral prints to match her taste.  I chose the fabric line Social by Moda.  The border is not from that line but I liked how it matched.

I love the quilting on this one!

 The back turned out awesome!

Here's a close up of the quilting.

Baby Room

Since Zak and I found out we were expecting a girl I was overjoyed at the thought of girly quilts, ruffles, and lace.  Of course I had a stash of mostly girl fabrics for this day.  I chose to keep the nursery more neutral so it could be easily adapted for a boy someday.  I never created a crib quilt for baby Ruby, instead I used the hexagon quilt I made the previous spring.  Ruby has lots of quilts I've made.  The nursery has curtains and crib sheets that I made.
Zak made a dresser and bookshelf to fit perfectly in the nursery.
Here is a close up look at one side of the ruffles on the crib skirt.  After doing this project I wanted to avoid ruffles for the fact of how time consuming they are.  Later my mother-in-law purchased a ruffler foot for her sewing machine that I now use (totally worth the money!).  I used a tutorial I found on pinterest.  It was easy to follow, find it here.

The hexagon quilt is hanging in the background until baby can move then it will more to the rocking chair so she can't pull it on top of herself.

I made two curtains to match the light blue/turquoise in the room.  They go great with the grey walls.

I made an owl sheet and a geometric patterned sheet.  You can follow the tutorial here.

I love sewing things for baby.  I ended up making this owl wall hanging just before baby came.  I had to finish the tabs after she was born, but I working on it the week and weekend before she was born.  (It still needs hung on the door.  Hubby has forgotten.)

Dr. Seuss Baby

Before Zak and I found out we were having a girl I was determined to finish some neutral baby items.  The most important of which is this Dr. Seuss quilt.  After collecting Dr. Seuss fabrics and stashing a panel, I complied them to create this quilt and used some fat quarters for burp rags.

These are burp rags with minky backs.

Don't mind that it needs ironed after being washed and folded up!

The back is my favorite.  I love this busy print and the quilting from this view.

Christmas Quilt

Every year our youth group has an auction to help raise money for their trips and operating costs.  It is coming up on December 13th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton for anyone interested in supporting the 3 points youth ministry of St. Mark's Lutheran and Calvary Lutheran Churches.  I am donating this sudoku quilt for the auction this year.  I am so proud of the various stitching patterns quilted on this quilt.  I also chose to machine bind this quilt with a decorative stitch.  It is neat.  I hate to let it go, but come bid on it to help your local youth!

Retro School Quilt Finally Finished

Remember when I posted two years ago about making a quilt for school?  Well I finally had a little nestling kick in and I got it quilted this fall.  I absolutely love this quilt.  My mother-in-law embroidered my name and school on the back.  After our school is done renovating I can't wait to display it in my classroom next August.

My favorite part of this quilt is the back!  I love the handwriting fabric with the extra detail at the bottom and the personalization of course.

Baby News

This June Zak and I found out we are expecting.  :)  We couldn't be more thrilled.  I have so many sewing projects that have been set back for baby, and many more planned.  Here is a little preview of what I made since June.
